Over 130 years of analytical and research experience in well log analysis and well logging equipment design.
CH4ensics is situated in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Our core leadership and management team consist of three seasoned oil and gas professionals with over 130-years of oil and gas experience that includes instrument research and development; data analytics; open and cased-hole petrophysics; and well logging operations.

Collectively, we hold 14 patents related to well logging instrumentation and data analytics and have authored 36 papers and professional presentations.
Principals
Kirk Stewart
Managing Director
Mr. Stewart began his career with Dresser Atlas in 1975 and spent twenty-five years in the field performing open-hole and cased-hole well logging services throughout North America with various service companies. From 2000 to 2009, Mr. Stewart was directly involved in management, sales, log interpretation and research and development roles. In 2010, Mr. Stewart started a consulting firm offering well log analysis services to clients in Canada, with a focus on cased-hole applications and research and development. Mr. Stewart holds a C.Tech., Petroleum Engineering Technology certification through the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists.
Ron Krawchuk
Managing Director
Mr. Krawchuk began his career in 1969 with Imperial Oil Limited spending the first five years in the field as a wellsite geologist before transitioning to a cased-hole and production log analyst. In his role as the lead analyst, Mr. Krawchuk was responsible for identifying the sources of SCVF/GM flows across all Imperial Oil production fields. In 1994, Mr. Krawchuk left IOL to become an independent log analyst providing log analysis services to clients in Canada and the middle east. Mr. Krawchuk holds a Geological Technology diploma from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Dr. Russel Randall
Managing Director
Dr. Randall began his career with Dresser Atlas in 1975 within the pulsed-neutron and steady-state neutron R&D group. Dr. Randall’s most recognized accomplishment was leading the Atlas PDK-100 pulsed-neutron development project in 1983, taking it from concept to commercial use within one-and-a-half years. This achievement drove the Atlas worldwide pulsed neutron share from $3 million to $33 million within the first year and was made possible through Dr. Randall’s understanding of market requirements and deep insight into the technology. In May 1995 he started a consulting company that has successfully operated to this date. Dr. Randall holds a PhD, in physics from Kansas State University.
Dr. John Teachman
Honorary Associate
Dr. Teachman began his career with Energy Northwest in 1981 within the nuclear fuel engineering group. Within this group he had major involvement with nuclear reactor core calculations and with the development, implementation, and maintenance with computer codes for these calculations and for support within other fields. Additional responsibilities included the special nuclear material program, outage support and licensing support. Since 2010 Dr. Teachman has been involved with Dr. Randall in the development and support for improved logging capabilities and post logging analysis. This has included development of Windows based codes for collection and analysis of data, MCNP (Monte Carlo Neutral Particle) modeling and a variety of other activities.
Dr. Karlis Muehlenbachs
Honorary Associate
Prof. Karlis Muehlenbachs is a stable isotope geochemist in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta. Karlis and his students developed isotope fingerprinting techniques to identify source depths of migrating gases. In 1999 the then Alberta Regulator recognized carbon isotope fingerprinting (EUB, GB 99-6) as a valid tool for oil and gas well remediation and since then many thousands of gases have been analyzed in his lab. Karlis received his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1971 for a ground-breaking study demonstrating the global consequences of interaction of seawater with the rocks of the ocean floor.
